Mexican steel sector in fight with unfair steel competition from Asia

It is learned that Mexican steel sector keeping push federal government to start new investigation and impose sanctions against illegal steel imports.

The representative body of the local steel sector CANACERO said that the steel imports are under unfair conditions and harm Mexican steel industry which is lack of governmental subsidies.

On the other hand, CANACERO accused that Asian countries are subsiding compensation for more than 15% to its steel exports.

In response to the request of local steel industry, Mexican Economy Ministry has 3 ongoing antidumping investigations.

The latest was started from last June to investigate the irregular imports of the galvanized mesh from China in the period between 1 of October, 2011 to 30 of September, 2012.

Besides, The Economy Ministry also imposed provisional compensation rates against cold rolled coils from Korea, Posco and Hyundai were punished by 60.4% and 6.4% respectively.

CANACERO said they will work with the authority to monitor any possible unfair competition and apply barriers and sanctions if is necessary.
